The Yom Kippur War, 1973
Quote: "We Jews have a secret weapon in our struggle with the Arabs; we have no place to go." - Golda Meir
The Egyptians, with Sadat in power, planned another attack against Israel.
They planned the attack to be a surprise over the Yom Kippur holiday.
Israel does not know of the planned attack and there military was not at full power due to the holiday time of the year.
Golda Meir the first female Prime Minister of Israel was in power at the time.
In the beginning of the war Egypt made gains but the Israelis retook what had been gained by Egypt with the help of the US aid that they were sent.
At end of the war the boarders remained as they were before the war.
The Arabs realized that they could not win a war against Israel. So OPEC raised the oil prices by 70% as a way of punishing Israel. This caused a financial crisis around the world so the West pushed for a settlement between the nations.
From this point on most of the conflicts in the Middle East have been resource based.
Summary: The Yom Kippur war was an attack planned by the Egyptians against Israel. This time Israel did not know any attack was coming so Egypt was the side to attack first. Israeli however, held its own and kept the borders the same. Egypt came to accept that they couldn't win a war with Israel but they knew that they could harm Israel's economy.

Question: How would the Yom Kippur War have turned out had Israel know about it before hand and had acted on their First Strike Policy?
