The Kronstadt Mutiny which was the uprising of Sailors against their officers at the Baltic fortress of Kronstadt sparked the uprising against the provisional government to come.
20,000 armed sailors took control of Petrograd and demanded the Soviet take power.
Kornilov affair (an attempt to overthrough the provisional government by the Commander in Chief of the Russian army Kornilov). The Bolsheviks are seen as the defenders of Petrograd. Kornilov threatened to attack the city.
Bolsheviks led by Leo Trotsky.(military side)
Lenin led the Petrograd uprising and it was bloodless.
Cruiser Aurora fired one blank shot at winter palace.
Winter palace defended by Cossacks, Women's Battalion of Death and cadets.
Power now belonged to the Soviets
The Bolsheviks overthrow the Russian provisional government and the power goes
to the local soviets who are dominated by the Bolsheviks. The Bolsheviks army
were the Red Guards.
Mensheviks, who had split from the Bolsheviks in 1903, and the Center-right believed the Bolsheviks had gained power illegally.
They walked out of the Second Congress of Soviets.
Decree on land allowed peasants to seize private land and redistribute it
Decree on Peace proposed a withdrawl from WW1 (Treaty of Brest-Litovsk)
The Bolsheviks later founded the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic.
